Previews of the Year to Come

Hello folks.  It’s the holidays and I haven’t been posting as much, but here’s some stuff that is coming up in the new year:

Eerie Ohio Article – The Ohio Lunatic Asylum (Columbus, Ohio)
Built in 1838, the original Ohio Lunatic Asylum burnt down in 1968, killing seven inmates in the process.  The origin of the fire was never determined.  It was rebuilt much larger, and operated until the late 1980s, when it was torn down and replaced by the Ohio Department of Transportation.  However, four very creepy cemeteries still occupy the land.  I’ll be delving into the history of this place and the doctor who claimed to cure 100% of his patients…

New Section – The Book of Mysteries
A new wing in the asylum known as the Mask of Reason will open, The Book of Mysteries, where I’ll house my posts on things like the Dyatlov Pass Incident as well as new articles on things like The Lead Masks Case and the paintings of Austin Osman Spare.  My Slenderman research will end up here too!

New Section – The Long Box
Since my article on Why Loki Won is the most popular thing here ever, and I like writing about comics in general, there will be a new section where I keep articles on comics and just a general ranting about the state of comic book stories in general.  The section is named after the long white cardboard boxes used to store comics, of course!

My lengthy absence

I must apologize.  It seems every so often the real world conspires to pull me away from updating my blog.  Have no fear, readers, I am still among the living (or at least appear to be so) and still have interesting things to write about.  More to come soon!

 

Holy Fritos, Batman!

So in the last day I’ve had about 45,000 views.  This blog usually gets about 300 a day, max.  All because of the Loki Wins theory.

First, welcome if you haven’t been here before.  Second, hope you enjoy what you read – I’m an amateur writer who likes sharing his thoughts on comics, video games, writing, and pretty much anything else with a plot.

Also, there are zombies.

Return to the Journal look

I decided to take the Mask back to the journal look.  It’s just cleaner in my opinion, and more fitting for the blog of a writer.

 

New Look

I decided to switch from the leather bound journal look to this slick new black appearance.  I think it looks good, so we’ll see how long it sticks around!

 

Happy Belated Krampus Day

I’ve gone and lost my head.

Actually, I haven’t, but this is the wonderful version of me from May December Publication’s Chivalry is Dead anthology.  The book is out for Kindle already, and the print version should be available soon.

I have to hand it to May December, they do a wonderful job with the artwork for these books, and this has to be the coolest image of me I’ve ever seen.

The book, Chivalry is Dead, is the male half of the “marriage of the dead” duology, the first being Hell Hath No Fury featuring all female writers.  My story is entitled “Damsel in Distress” and is the story of a young woman trapped in her highrise apartment building as the zombie horde begins to fill the city.  It’s actually meant to be in the same universe as my story “Embedded” from May December’s Eye Witness Zombie.

 

New story published – My Monster on FiftyWordStories.Com

I’m usually not one for flash fiction.  My attempts haven’t gone so well.  However, I did write a micro-flash story, just fifty words long, for the site FiftyWordStories.com.

It was published today.  Here’s a link to the story, titled My Monster. It’s actually a tiny encapsulated form of a longer story I’m working on, currently titled The Slouching Monster.

 

Sorry for the Hiatus

It’s been a busy month for me, helping my ex move, working hard, hoping to land a permanent position with my company.  The blog has suffered, but I hope to change that going forward.

New Review and a Movie Review Facelift

Also, to help deal with the large number of movie reviews, I’ve broken them into alphabetic sections and re-ordered the header menu to make it easier to see the drop downs!
