This past week I’ve been doing a fair amount of writing the old-school way, with pen and paper. It’s quite a different experience, and I’ve been enjoying it. The story that is winding out in blue ink in my notebook seems natural and unhurried. I have no word counts, no constant nagging to correct spelling. All of that will come later, when I translate the written words into ones and zeros on the screen. For now, it’s refreshing to write unhindered by any of the little things that are meant to support your work, but sometimes interfere with it.
