Eli Roth Interview on Den of Geek

I’m not a huge fan of Eli Roth.  Hostel and Cabin Fever didn’t really do it for me because I’m much more of a supernatural horror fan than a gore porn fan.  Both movies were incredibly visceral, but if I wanted to see evil people doing bad things I’d just watch C-Span.

However, in this interview, he makes a point that I had to share:

I remember seeing the quotes on the poster for Evil Dead from Stephen King and that was what got me to rent Evil Dead. No one knew who Sam Raimi was, but we all knew who Stephen King was, so we all wanted to see it. So, I think it’s in the tradition of horror. The only way to continue the growth of the genre and the vitality of the genre, is to continually bring in new blood and bring in new people with new ideas that are going to continually reinvent the genre and push it forward.

That’s a really good way of putting it – new writers will always be needed.  It gives me hope.

  1. The last exorcism was one of the most disappointing films I’ve seen in a long time.
For a moment I actually thought it was going to do something interesting… And then it all collapsed miserably!!!!
Here’s my review of it http://wp.me/p19wJ2-aF.
